Your Academic Robe and Its Part on Your Schooling

While attending our wizard school, you must make sure to wear your academic robes daily. Your robes must remain clean and undamaged at all time. They are an important part of the wizard tradition, but are also functional as well. We use our robes to hide our wands and potions. We need them to signify to others what level of schooling we have had and our level of knowledge.

Your academic robes must be kept clean because it is a representation of yourself and of your education. If it is damaged, it will not be as functional as it should be. A damaged robe may not be able to hold everything that it needs to hold, including your wand, potions or spell ingredients.

You may keep different potions inside of your academic robes such as cleansing potions, healing potions or explosions potions, to name just a few. These would be potions needed to protect yourself, should you get into a wizard duel or attacked by a magical creature. Not all magical creatures can be damaged by non-magical means, so you will need a defense from damage by them.

You may also need to keep different spell ingredients in your academic robes as well. Some spells requiring special ingredients would be love spells, requiring the feather of a cupid and rose hips, but those must be plucked at midnight by the light of the full moon. For attack spells, such as fireballs, you would need 2 phoenix feathers. For spells such as flight you would need the claw shavings of a griffin. Some spells may require more than 1 ingredient, but we will look into that more into the future.

There have been many students in the past, which I will use as examples here, which did not understand the need for undamaged robes. One student, possibly not realizing the extent of the damage of his academic robes, he stored his wand and potions in pockets that had been damaged. He was called into battle against a dragon and when he went to get his wand and phoenix feathers, to perform to fireball spell, found that not only was his wand missing, but that his feathers were missing also. Unfortunately, this particular student did not return from the fight.

While it is possible to put a temporary spell of protection on your academic robes, you will not learn this spell until fourth year, so will not be able to use this spell as you are learning. It is also a temporary spell, so should not be relied upon for daily use as the spell itself can damage your robes as well. The spell is a temporary fix used during battle to help protect, not only yourself, but also your spell components and potions. The most important things for a wizard to carry, his wand and his potions must be protected, which is why the spell was developed, but it is not a catch all. Once the spell wears off, it will cause the wear and tear of 5 years time on the fabric of your robes
